Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (or ADHD) is a disorder
that makes it difficult for a person to concentration. There are two main forms of ADHD, in one, a person becomes inattentive, and in the other, the person becomes hyperactive.
Individuals who are diagnosed with ADHD feel self conscious about the disorder. Such individuals have a great amount of tangangial thought processes and have trouble staying focused on a certain topic. People with ADHD feel that they zone out often as well.
ADHD has become a subject of great discussion in our society with regards to what defines an ADHD diagnosis. The World Health Organization has written that 40 million people in the world are affected with ADHD. While ADHD can be overdiagnosed, it is a disease that afflicts millions of individuals worldwide.

ADHD is accompanied by hyperactivity. To diagnose ADHD, there must be symptoms regarding having difficulty paying attention and having excessive activity that lasts for greater than 6 months. To make the diagnosis, there also needs to be ADHD symptoms that exist in at least 2 different settings. For instance, if the ADHD symptoms only occur at school, but not at home, at work, or in public locations, the individual would not meet the definition of having ADHD. In this situation, further exploration should be considered to why an individual preformed better in one environment over another.
There are two main forms of ADHD
The first form of ADHD is the inattentive form where an individual is easily distracted,
has difficulty focusing, and daydreams often.
The second form is the hyperactive-impulsive form, where an individual tends to speak a great amount, move around constantly, and have a great deal of energy that isn't attributed to any other cause. If these symptoms are found in a child, they can decrease as a child ages.

ADHD individuals can also have concurrent anxiety, Tourettes syndrome (a disease characteristics by motor tics and vocal tics), insomnia, and can have difficulty getting along with their peers.
What is interesting is that many individuals who are diagnosed with ADHD tend to have the ability to focus on tasks in which they find interesting, for instance, playing video game. A task like this gives the stimulation an ADHD needs and helps them focus to complete a given task, which is to play the video game.
ADHD is diagnosed more often in boys than girls in the childhood population, and approximately 50% of people who have ADHD diagnosed in childhood continue to have symptoms into adulthood. Of note, it is possible that more boys are diagnosed with ADHD thean girls due to the fact that the presentation of ADHD in women is different than it is in men.
There are many treatments available for ADHD. Counseling and therapy can be considered. Lifestyle changes including exercising more, eating a more balanced diet, drinking more water, avoiding sugary beverages and fatty foods, in addition to abstaining from nicotine and alcohol can be useful. Medication treatment can also be considered, and has very good results in certain patients.
